The Young Men’s Christian Association

The Young Men’s Christian Association is a standing testimony to the power of true Christian values that transcends the narrow confines of geography, politics, colour, faith and language. A movement that was started in London by a 23 year old Englishman who felt that it was ‘the duty of Christian young men to witness in practical ways to their faith in the sphere of their daily life, had surpassed the expectations of its pioneers even during their life time. When Sir. George Williams and his friends planted the seeds of the YMCA in 1844 in London, would they have ever imagined that a few decades later, in 1886 and thousands of kilometers away, a small town named Thrissur in the small princely state of Cochin (remember Kerala was not formed until 1956) would have a YMCA of its own! It is even more interesting to know that Sir. George Williams died only in 1905, and the National Council of YMCAs of India was formed only in 1891. Truly, the YMCA of Thrissur has a history that is unique in many ways.

Value Based Awareness of HIV/AIDS
Inspite of the rapid progress in medical care and amenities, problems associated with HIV/AIDS looms large on our society which is reluctant to actively engage in discussions on AIDS.

Our Programs

The Programs and Activities of our YMCA are of varied and diversified nature from Youth Programs, Inter-Faith programs, Ecumenical programs, Medical and Health related programs etc. Our activities in the areas of health and fitness extend to activities like the ongoing project on ‘Value Based Awareness on HIV/AIDS & STDs and Addiction among the Youth’, YMCA Doctors Forum, Yoga sessions, and Medical Camps.

Guest House

The YMCA International Guest House offers an economic and comfortable stay in Thrissur for the individual, family and other small and big groups. Located on Palace Road, our Guest House is only a 2 minute walk from the Swaraj Round (centre of town) and barely 5 minutes by taxi/auto-rickshaw from the Railway and Bus stations. Major shopping malls are close by just in case you are in the mood for some shopping.We also arrange on-call taxi facility from our Guest House.

YMCA Youth Center

The YMCA Youth Center shall be equipped to host a wide range of programs from national and international level conferences, receptions, youth meets and other big and small meetings. What adds special value to the place is its aesthetic beauty, with the calm and serene atmosphere, surrounded by the lush green Peechi hills. The Centre is far enough to be away from the din of the urban jungle but close enough for access to modern facilities for any requirements.

Hall Booking

The YMCA A/C Conference Hall has a seating capacity of 150 pax. Located on the first floor of the YMCA Tower on Palace Road, it is easily accessible from the city centre. Its ambience is most suitable for executive seminars and conferences. The Hall offers an acoustically treated sound system, facility for audio/visual presentations and comfortable cushioned chairs. We also have a Mini Conference Hall (non A/C) with 35 pax.
