| The World Alliance of YMCAs is a confederation of 124 national YMCA movements. The national movements, meeting as the World Council, are the international decision-making body of the world YMCA Movement.The World Alliance has its office in Geneva, Switzerland. |

| World Council |
| The World Council meets every four years. The meeting has two purposes. One is to conduct the Council's business, to evaluate the work of the World Alliance Executive Committee and its staff, and to set policy and directions for the Movement for the next four years. The World Council also provides a unique opportunity for 1,000 YMCA people to meet together. |

| Executive Committee |
| The 30 Executive Committee members, who represent a balance of age, gender and region, are elected at the World Council. The Committee meets each year to review the work of its standing committees and discuss future plans. There are 3 Officers: the President, Vice President and Treasurer. |
| The Executive Committee appoints the 'Secretary General' who is the top executive staff employed by the World Alliance. |

| The World Alliance is accountable to its members, the affiliated National Movements. |
| The National Councils work includes strengthening and extending local associations, leadership and programme development, developing strong and effective governance and community relations. They also represent the world Movement in their country. |
| The international movement also has a series of informal networks amongst National Movements, local associations and Area Alliances, from any region of the world, working together on a self-directed agenda. |

| Area Alliance |
| In addition, there are Area Alliances - Africa Alliance of YMCAs, , YMCA Europe, American and the Caribbean Alliance of YMCAs, Middle East Committee. They are formed by, and are accountable to, their affiliated National Councils. YMCA Thrissur comes under the Asia and Pacific Alliance of YMCAs with its office in Hong Kong. |
| The Area Alliances support National Movements, promote co-operation, provide leadership for the region and network with other NGOs. They also facilitate communication within the area and develop program. |

| National Councils |
| The National Council is the federation of the YMCAs in the respective countries. The purpose of the national office is to support local Associations in the achievement of their mission while upholding the principle of local autonomy and independence. The National Council is affiliated to the Area Alliance concerned and the World Alliance. YMCA Thrissur is affiliated to the National Council of YMCAs of India with its office in New Delhi. |

| Regions |
| For administrative purposes the National Council demarcates geographical areas under it into Regions with local YMCAs in those areas coming under its purview. The Region is thus the co-coordinating body of the YMCAs in the respective regions and the National Council. YMCA Thrissur is under the YMCA South West India Region with its office in Aluva, Kerala. |

| Sub-Regions |
| Again for better coordination in Regions which have a good number of local YMCAs, Sub-Regions are formed. YMCA Thrissur is under the YMCA Thrissur Sub-Region. |
